Baked Samosa

Baked Samosa

My children adore these baked samosas so what better way to give them what they want but in the most healthy was possible.  The method of making them remains the same, the only difference is in the way they are cooked.  Baked Samosas taste just as yummy, maybe more so as there no residual taste of oil.

Baked Samosas allow us to enjoy these lovely delights without the guilt. Be sure to make enough as they are so moorish.
Ingredients
  • 1kg fat free lamb mince (keema)
  • 3-4 very finely chopped green chillies
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp garlic and ginger paste
  • 2 tbps corainder cumin powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper.
  • Other ingredients
  • 1 bunch of sping onions finely chopped
  • 2 cups of coriander finely chopped
  • 1 large onion grated
  • For the pastry
  • Spring roll pastry sheets or samosa sheets
  • 1 tbsp. flour
Instructions
  1. Add a cup of water and all the spices to the fat free lamb mince (or keema) in a large pot.
  2. Boil on a high heat until the water evaporated.
  3. Whilst boiling, constantly mash the lamb mince with a wooden spoon to avoid clumps forming.
  4. Turn the heat down if you are struggling to mash over a high heat. This process takes approximately 20 minutes.
  5. Let the mince cool down completely for a few hours or overnight.
  6. Add the onion, spring onions and coriander and mix thoroughly.
  7. Take a rectangular sheet and fold over into a conical shape.
  8. Mix the flour with a little water to form a think paste (this will act as glue)
  9. Use a tablespoon to fill up the cone and keep folding until a perfect triangle is formed.
  10. Use the glue to stick the last edge to the samosa
  11. Brush with olive oil and grill in a hot oven for 7 mins on each side until golden brown.
  12. Serve with ketchup or tamarind sauce (imli)
